No question …
No question teaching a dog to go on command is helpful. But I prefer “Hurry Up” to any other command. Obviously the command makes no difference, but every other command, like “go potty” or “make poo poo” or “leave mumsy a gift” seem inferior to the command, “Hurry Up!” Just my two cents.

Yes, don't confuse him by allowing him to go inside sometimes. If he is not fully housetrained, then get him a crate to be in when you're gone. If he is though, then he should be fine in the house by himself without making a mess.
